Dear All,

I am about to consume your product aloe gel as prevention. There are 2 things that I am concerned about:

1. I am O blood type and there are few opinions that aloe is not suitable even harmful for persons with this blood type.

2. I have problems with my bladder, often infection (and that is the only known problem that I have). Some of your consumers (not the one I personally know) who also have bladder problems said that they had a huge difficulties with health using aloe gel.

Please advice. I am not sure what to do now. Can you with certainty claim that aloe and these 2 issues are not related? According to your answer I will choose whether to use aloe or not.

Thanks in advance.

Awaiting your reply,

Sincerely yours,

Violeta

I have heard that aloe gel should be used within four hours of harvesting from the plant. It should be washed thoroghly several times before consumption. A leaf that is about 10 to 12 months old should be used for best results.

Hey Tom,

I used to live in England. I am currently in Africa now, though (but I'm moving back to England next year). I know for sure that many people believe the weather in England (and in other parts of the United Kingdom) doesn't work well with aloe vera plants, but the truth is, you can grow an aloe vera plant indoors in the UK. Just keep the plant somewhere where it can get light (you can keep it on a windowsill, by a window or something if you want (best to keep it around somewhere that the temperature's about 20-25 degrees Celsius) . I keep mine right by the window). I've heard people say that their aloe plant grows well in bathrooms, dunno. I've never tried that.
As long as your plant has water and light, it's fine. You don't need to do much to keep it alive and healthy. Oh! but during winter, don't give your plant a lot of water or it's going to die due to the weather's effect on it.

You just might be able to buy and aloe vera plant at Gandy's Roses (Station Road, North Kilworth,Lutterworth,Leicestershire. LE17 6HZ). I've never been there, but I've been told they sell aloe plants there.

Hope I could help

Hi can you tell me if Aleo vera contains naturally occurring glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM. I read that it did but I thought Chondroitin was only available from Bovine or Shark. If it does contain them can you tell me to what levels. Thanks

Hi Sam (and admin)

Thanks so much for your advice it does make more sense just to grow it but I will also check the 2 websites this is very helpful.

Is there any particular extraction process needed to get the gel ie. is it pretty straight forward? And does it only grow in warmer climates? (I'm in the UK btw).

Cheers

Hi,

You can buy an aloe vera plant. I have one that my grandmother gave me. It's easy to extract the aloe vera gel from the plant and by getting the aloe vera gel straight from the plant, you are positive that it's 100% pure/natural, nothing added, no preservatives or chemicals. I believe it shouldn't cost much to get an aloe vera plant and like all you need to do is just give the plant water from time to time and well, that's it, let it grow, get the gel you want from it and so on.
My dad gave me a bottle of Aloe Vera Gel and like it doesn't feel a thing like aloe vera gel, plus it's full of chemicals and preservatives so, I'm not going to really use it because all those chems put me off.
If you don't want to just buy a plant and get the gel out of it, I agree that you can get it from aloe1.com or well, you can get it also from http://www.rootsherbal.com/eng/3av.html.
I hope this helps. :)

What a pleasure to read your comment here. Thank you for having replied to Dave.

For those who do not know, Dr Michael is the owner of Stockton Aloe1 (http://www.aloe1.com) -> they sell the best and purest aloe vera gel in the world - this is my #1 recommendation without any hesitation.

Try to obtain an aloe vera plant....keep it in a pot and use it fresh when needed, all you need to do is remove the outer layer of the leave
and use the inside gel. you do not need to cut more than an inch across blend with some juice and it will be fine. You should take a look at royal jelly if you are planning to kick start your autoimmune. Before i would try drinking an half glass of warm lemon juice to flush liver for a couple of days.......hope this helps

If it doesn't make your hair dry (or if you have a natural oil or butter on your hair before you use it), you don't have to wash it out till your next wash day.

Hello Dave. Your understanding is correct. The yellowish aloin is the laxative and is to be avoided. The inner gel is the good part. Some people filet the leaves and run the inner parts through a blender to drink. Others "steep" them as you do. Here is an example of cutting out the filet: http://youtu.be/bYxpBG6zsMc You should then rinse it to get any aloin off before blending it.

Hi!

Wat do you think of the brand Alo drink? site alodrink.com.

I live in a wet climate region yet am from a hot climate area of which my family always had aloe plants and we would use as needed for burns scratches etc. Now, I would like to use it for daily health purposes but not sure how to go about it given the fact that I cannot maintain a plant in my cold damp climate. And I live in an apartment with little light.

I appreciate your feedback and love your site!

Thanks,
Jennifer

You state "The aloe vera gel that comes directly from the plant is a yellowish liquid. It can be obtained by simply breaking off a piece of the aloe plant. The liquid will run out and can be applied topically". My undesrstanding is that the yello liquid that drains off when the aloe is cut and stood up is the aloin. The remainder of the plant has a clear gel. I use this "remainder" to "steep" for 8 hours in a container of water in the fridge to get the juice. As this juice is used the jar is topped up for a few days before discarding the green outer layer to the compost heap.Is this correct?I have a couple of "brews" going simultaneously so I am never out of juice.

For autoimmune diseases I think it would be better to follow the GAPS diet rather than using aloe vera:

You can read these 2 blog posts for more information:

Where can I get Aloe Vera Barbadebsis Miller in capsule form?
I want to try to resolve autoimmune problems by breaking the capsules into water for fastser absorbtion.
How many max can I tart with safely? I have several serious autoimmune conditions and would like to kick start the process.
I hear this may work.

This is nothing new. Aloe Vera in 100% form is all you use.
The marketing companies help sell crap. But this is true with
all natural products.

I have bought Aloe-vera juice from Booths and Holland and Barrots and using
it. Let us see what happens. I could not find Gel. However there is one separately sold. I am still confused that gel you are talking about can be used both to drink
and apply on skin. I mean same stuff or juice is to be drunk and gel to be applied are two different stuffs.Gel in Booth are sold in tube while juice in a bottle of 500
or 475 litres.

Hey there!
I have a few questions. I live in Oman and here there are fields of Aloe Vera here. We have around 30 plants in our garden and we recently found out about their health benefits. So I heard people say cut a leaf off and cut a small slice off that and scrape the jelly out of it into a blender, mix it with whatever you like and drink the mixture. Then just wrap the remaining Aloe Vera leaf in cling film and put it into the fridge so the jelly part that is exposed to air wont oxidize and the vitamins will remain in it. Now as you said there are only 4 species of Aloe Vera that are safe to be consumed, how do i know that ours are safe? Is it safe to directly consume it ,just chopped off the pant, without any processing? Also if it is safe, will the vitamins still remain if it is left in the fridge wrapped in cling film for about a week and a half until all of it is consumed? I do have a friend who started drinking Aloe Vera milkshakes and in a few weeks her skin had got a lot brighter and looked more healthy. It tastes alright mixed with pomegranate, banana and some milk. Also are there benefits if you just rub the jelly on your skin?
Thank you in advance.

After reading the above comments, I wish to share that I had been taking Aloe Vera Gel and find it very good. Now after a very long gap of time, I am considering taking it again for overall good health. Also, whenever I get a slight burn or scald in the kitchen, I immediately apply an aloe vera gel locally manufactured, and don't suffer a blister. The aloe vera gel that I had been taking is in the form of liquid, like a juice, and I take one tablespoon in the mornings on an empty stomach. That is good enough to keep me fit and fine.

I have some fab looking Aloe vera plants in my garden (in Spain). I brought some back to the uk to use for myself. I cut it into 1 inch wide strips and wrapped it in clingfilm then stored it in the freezer for later use. I washed my skin and my hair, I had tons of the stuff, so i decided to sell some to health and beauty shops. No one new what to do with it in its natural form, so it ended up in the bin, next time I go to Spain i might bring a fresh batch with me if only i new what to do with it.....any ideas?

I have been using aloe vera gel from a fresh leaf cut every day. I peel the leaf and apply gel directly to my face. I have been doing this for the last 3 years. The effects are fantastic. My skin is smooth, unblemished and firm. I have the skin tone of a woman 10 years younger. Any burns, rash or insect stings it works wonders. The title of miracle plant is true :-)

Hi Andrea

You can recognize the Barbadensis Miller thanks to its yellow flowers. Look at this picture.

Kind Regards

Helo, my skin is very sensitive and hardly any cosmetics suits it. I feel that instead of these chemicals I should better go for natural products like herbs. some one recommended me aleo vera but I am confused that how should I apply it over my skin. U plz guide me whether it is good for every type of skin or some particular? if for all then how can it be used? directly on skin or it should be added with something?
     thanking in anticipation

Ah, interesting... Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organosulfur compound
MSM is a chemical found in green plants, grains, fruits, vegetables, and some algae. It is used to treat upset stomach, inflammation (pain and swelling), arthritis and allergies. MSM is also used for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), cancer, bacterial infections, some skin problems, and to boost the immune system. often in combination with glucosamine and/or chondroitin for helping to treat or prevent osteoarthritis. According to one review, "The benefits claimed [for MSM] far exceed the number of scientific studies. It is hard to build a strong case for its use other than for treating arthritis problems."[7] The biochemical effects of supplemental methylsulfonylmethane are poorly understood. Some researchers have suggested that MSM has anti-inflammatory effects.[8]

Received my first order this morning.Tastes quite pleasant. Freemove fitness gel drink contains 92% AV gel, fructose, orange juice&aroma, 0.7%chrondroïtin sulphate, 0.7%glucosamine sulphate, citric acid, 0.3% MSM (?), xanthane, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, ascorbic acid, vit. E (can't remember the English translation for some of those names!)
What's MSM?
The product has the International ALoe Science Council certification. It's the sodium benzoate that's worrying me.

Hey Dante, did you stop using your usual medecine? Sometimes when you stop a treatment too abruptly it causes headaches. If you stopped, maybe you ought to start up again and then slowly ween yourself off? Been there, done that, worked :) If this is not your case, perhaps you could stop the Aloe to see what happens. If the headaches go, and you think Aloe was causing them, try to reintroduce Aloe starting with a half dose mornings only for a week, increase to a full dose for a week then begin to take midday in small doses and increase until you get to the normal daily amount.

The blue nature catalogue has a wide choice of Aloe Vera products. The Freemove gel drink is 92% Aloe Vera and also contains the glucosamine and chondroïtine I need for arthrosis and arthritis problems. Apparently the combination works wonders. I was hoping someone could tell me if there was anything else in the drink (i.e. preserv.) since there is no mention in the catalogue. I see however that the products are certified Institut Kuhlmann and also International Aloe Science Council so I hope they are very safe to drink as I have recently applied for permission to sell them myself. Will let you know as soon as I receive my first order if there is any mention of anything else in the gel.

My warning is about internal use, your pets should be ok if you use aloe vera to help overcome their skin problems.

My favorite one is the one from Aloe1 as it is 100% pure without any additive.

However if you can extract it yourself from your garden it's even better, just make sure you remove the aloin properly as it is toxic.

Please download my electronic magazine to learn how to do that (enter your email address in the box above the comments section).

Aloin is toxic and should not be ingested. Seems like the phytotherapist you consulted with doesn't know it as he used the whole leaves.

Hi Dorothy

When you say true aloe vera do you mean the barbadensis miller?

About the way to use it for your skin, you first need to extract the gel from it. Please download my electronic magazine as it explains how to do that (enter your email address in the box above the comments).

Hi Liz

I'm French myself but strangely enough I decided to create this site in English :) I don't have a French version of it but it's a good idea... maybe in the future.

Concerning your 1st question, I have never tried the Aloe vera freemove drink - can you tell me what the ingredients are?

Hi, thanks for the above information, very interesting and very useful indeed. I live in France and have just ordered Aloe vera freemove drink for myself and friends from the MWA catalogue Blue Nature. Firstly, can you advise me on the quality of this drink? and secondly, do you have a website in French that my friends might read, since they don't understand English?

Yes, it helped heal and get rid of acne. My son had acne bulgaris, had been under Derma's care for 6 months, was taking Solodyn, applying Retin-A micro cream but acne never left his face and back. I by chance saw Aloe Vera leaves for sale in one of the grocery stores, I didn't think of anything specific what to with it but I bought one, kept it in my fridge for 3-4 days. My friend advised me to apply the gel(from inside the leaf) on my son's acne covered skin when he came home from college. The next day after the Aloe Vera gel was applied his bleeding acne dried and flattened overnight, no more redness nor nodules of hidden acne anywhere his face or back. We decided to apply shea butter as a moisturizer on his face, since his skin felt tight. My son had been skeptically about Aloe Vera initially, now that his acne cleared up he's a proponent of Aloe Vera.

I have been working with a phytotherapist for followup cancer treatment; he prepared a tonic of the whole leaves of aloe vera, with raw honey, 3 tbsp per day. I am finding that I seem to have new diarrhea issues. Reading about aloin makes me wonder if this stuff is actually the cause?

In the Uk there was a problem with imported aloe vera gel from India a few months ago. This was very toxic and led to very serious health problems for those that consumed it.
Most of the people affected were of Indian descent as the consumption of the gel is a traditional healthy habit. The contaminated products were sold in Leicester UK and the press reports seriously effected the sale of any Aloe vera products in the area. The contaminated products had all come from cheap indian imports. US products are shown to be safe and should be encouraged.

Can you please add any information regarding the warning at the top of the page. I was advised that aloe vera juice can be used for pets with skin problems. However if you are advising against any sort of use, I don't want to risk this. It would also be helpful if you could provide a reference to the research that you site. Thank you.

Im not exactly sure what I had but it was like a rash on my arm. Some say I got into some poison ivy/oak, some say its an alergic reaction, some say its from the heat, and others are clueless. It never spreaded to other parts of the body. When I put cold water on it, I got instant relief. One night I decided to put aloe vera on it, the itching stopped after it dried. Before 2 days past I started seeing a difference, it wasnt as red and didnt have the urge to scratch it. Before I used aloe vera, I used 3 different creams the doctor gave that did nothing. Till this day I still dont know what I had, dont care. Aloe vera got rid of it and I am happy. Best wishes. God bless.
